Corbit's Charge: June 29th, 1863

Captain Charles Corbit led companies C and D, First Delaware Calvary, against General J.E.B. Stuart's Calvary Division. Though they were repelled by overwhelming force, the attack delayed J.E.B. Stuart's Calvary, and was a major factor in his failure to reach the infamous Gettysburg Battlefield before July 2nd. Instead of proceeding into Pennsylvania to inform General Robert E. Lee about the major Union troop movements. Stuart was delayed enough to spend the night in Westminster, MD. This may have been a significant contributor to the outcome of the Battle of Gettysburg. During this battle, the bullet meant for a troop, was instead embedded into the Trumbo/Chrest House, circa. 1830.
